Symptom : Engine Lacks Power

Cause Remedy
  • Worn internal engine components
  • Fuel system defective or incorrectly adjusted
  • Low boost
  • Damaged Turbocharger
  • Air filter blocked
  • Air pipe into turbo restricted
  • Air pipe from filter to turbo leaking
  • Air pipe from turbo to inlet manifold leaking
  • Ignition timing incorrectly adjusted
  • Blockage in exhaust system
  • Exhaust gas leaking from manifold
  • Repair engine  as required
  • Replace or adjust faulty components
  • Check wastegate and actuator operator
  • Determine reason for failure - repair or replace turbo
  • Replace air filter
  • Replace pipe
  • Check hoses for splits and tighten hose clips
  • Check hoses and intercooler for leaks and replace
  • Check and reset
  • Replace silencers or catalytic converter
  • Replace gasket or manifold - check bolts for tightness

 

Turbo Noisy

Cause Remedy 
  • Damaged turbocharger
  • Air pipe into turbo restricted
  • Air pipe from filter to turbo leaking
  • Air pipe from turbo to inlet manifold leaking
  • Carbon build up in turbo bearing housing
  • Blockage in exhaust system
  • Exhaust gas leaking from manifold
  • Determine reason for failure - repair or replace turbo
  • Replace pipe
  • Check hoses for splits and tighten hose clips
  • Check hoses and intercooler for leaks and replace
  • Change engine oil and filter overhaul or replace turbo
  • Replace silencers or catalytic converter
  • Replace gasket or manifold - check bolts for tightness

 

Symptom : Excessive Engine Oil Consumption

Cause Remedy 
  • Worn internal engine components
  • Fuel system defective or incorrectly adjusted
  • Damaged turbocharger
  • Air filter blocked
  • Air pipe into turbo restricted
  • Incorrect operation of crankcase breather system
  • Carbon build up in turbo bearing housing
  • Air pipe from turbo to inlet manifold leaking
  • Restricted oil drain pipe from turbocharger
  • Repair engine as required 
  • Replace or adjust faulty components
  • Determine reason for failure - repair or replace turbo
  • Replace air filter
  • Replace pipe
  • Check breather hoses, pipes and one way valves as per manufacturer recommendations
  • Change engine oil and filter overhaul or replace turbo
  • Check hoses and intercooler for leaks and replace
  • Replace oil drain pipe

 

Blue Exhaust Smoke

Cause Remedy
  • Worn internal engine components
  • Fuel system defective or incorrectly adjusted
  • Damaged turbocharger
  • Air filter blocked
  • Air pipe into turbo restricted
  • Restricted oil drain pipe from turbocharger
  • Incorrect operation of crankcase breather system
  • Carbon build up in turbo bearing housing 
  • Repair engine as required
  • Replace or adjust faulty components
  • Determine reason for failure - replace or repair turbo
  • Replace air filter
  • Replace pipe
  • Replace oil drain pipe
  • Check breather hoses, pipes, and one way valves as per manufacturer recommendations
